Chinese “disgusted” over pressure on Darfur

China, one of the worst human rights violators in the free world. For all the faults of my government, and there are many, at least in this country up to this point Stephen Spielberg has the right to quit his advisory role for the Beijing Olympics without fear of repercussion.

We as US citizens understand the culpability of our government, of our past of leaving the oil fields in Sudan undeveloped with the assumption we would return at a later time to refine and prosper. In the meantime China and parts of Malaysia, due to their humongous population and increasing needs for energy, came in and did what we did not do, faring quite well economically and allowing the corrupt government in Khartoum to do the same. We do not make any assumptions as to what stance our government would be taking should we be in China’s shoes at this point in time. We do know we would be protesting it in the same way were it our government.

What we don’t understand is how the people of China just don’t seem to care.

Hi Cooper, a high ranking Chinese official made some statements in Khartoum recently to the effect that the Sudanese government must make changes in their policies towards the people of Darfur. Sorry I don’t have the link but campaigns such as yours are having an impact on policy. Keep up the good work!
