Reflections on Darfur

14 Dec

Even as human rights activists wage a high-profile campaign to end the violence in Sudan’s western Darfur region (by pushing President-elect Barack Obama and his team to re-energize efforts to end the nearly six-year conflict), clashes in Darfur killed 75 people, and U.N. Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon continues to press for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Sudanese province of Darfur despite the difficulties. We will be spending another holiday season “reflecting” in Darfur. Five years in we continue to “reflect”.

When the oppressed and neglected decide it’s time to get their fair share of wealth and power there are always those who will not let it happen. Even if the result is genocide.
It could happen anywhere. We need to do more than reflect.

We remind you again to Add Your Voice, with a letter to the president-elect and his team.

Sadly – the UN cannot even protect it’s own Peacekeepers at this point.

I don’t think there is an easy answer
